Canaport LNG Terminal

Project Description
Canada`s first LNG Terminal, located in Saint John at Mispec Point, New Brunswick, is capable of receiving and regasifying liquid natural gas at a rate of 28 million cubic meters per day, and pumped for distribution into an underground pipeline for Canadian and US markets.
Proponent’s Responsibility on the Project
Conquest Engineering was responsible for site quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) from the onset of the project through to project commissioning. Responsibilities at the beginning of the project included site earthworks supervision and compaction control, along with associated laboratory testing of aggregates and backfill materials. As the project proceeded, Conquest provided QA/QC support to SNC-Lavalin and its sub-contrators through the provision of inspection services for reinforcing steel placement both on the slip form of three LNG tanks as well as shallow foundations for surrounding buildings and machine bases.
Materials testing were provided for concrete and grout for cast-in-place concrete on site. Plate load tests were performed for areas supporting crawler cranes, as well as geotechnical investigations for the tower cranes. Inspection and supervision of post-tensioning operations were also provided, during the installation of horizontal and vertical post tensioned steel strands in the three 80 m diameter LNG storage tanks, including material tracking, tensioning supervision, and grout injection
Relevance of the Project
Our overall effort for the Canaport LNG Terminal demonstrates our knowledge and requirements for the following:
- The Project was completed safely and on time,
- Close working relationships with SNC-Lavalin and sub-contractors,
- Investigation, inspection, and materials testing recommendations met all requirements set forth by the client.
